Kung Fu Flash stays in my daily machine almost permanently. It is not the most period-correct choice, but it removes just enough friction that I actually test things.

SD2IEC. It is humble, quiet, and handles nearly everything I reach for on a random evening.
Cartridge expander with a reset button. The reset button is doing most of the work.
