Black screen: please diagnose before buying a PLA

A small plea from the repair bench: “black screen” is a symptom, not a chip order form.

Post the board assembly number, supply voltages, whether the VIC gets warm, what the reset line does, and whether a Dead Test cartridge changes anything. A clear photo helps. PLA failures are common, but so are several cheaper problems.

And say whether the screen is truly black or just blank with a border. People use those interchangeably and they point down different paths.

Guilty. I nearly bought a PLA for a machine that had a dirty power switch.
