6581 grit or 8580 clarity — what do you reach for?

Not asking which chip is “better.” I’m curious which one you hear in your head when you start a tune.

I reach for the 6581 when the bass should feel a little dangerous. For cleaner stacked voices I usually end up on the 8580. Then I test on both and rewrite half the patches anyway.

8580 first for me. Mostly because it is the machine on my desk, which is the least romantic answer possible.

6581 for old demos, 8580 for making things. Bias by furniture placement is real.

I like the 6581 partly because two chips never seem to agree completely. It feels less like selecting an instrument and more like meeting one.
